In the impoverished municipality of Quisqueya, Dominican Republic, Hogar Emanuel stands as a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of children and families through the power of the gospel. This remarkable ministry, founded by the faithful servant Mirqueya Guzmán, is dedicated to serving the most vulnerable members of the community – those with physical, emotional, and intellectual disabilities.
Hogar Emanuel currently serves around 150 children from 139 families, providing them with a safe haven where they can experience the love of Christ. Many of these children come from non-Christian homes, but through the tireless efforts of the dedicated staff, they are introduced to the life-changing message of the gospel.
Hogar Emanuel was founded in 2000 by Mirqueya Guzmán, a fifth-grade teacher who saw the dire needs of her impoverished students. Starting with just 55 children in a converted two-room apartment, Hogar Emanuel has grown over the years through the faithful service of Mirqueya and her dedicated staff. They were blessed with a legacy gift that enabled the creation of a clean water distribution center, which not only provides a vital resource but also generates income to sustain the ministry.
In addition to providing a Christ-centered education, Hogar Emanuel operates a feeding program, ensuring that the children receive at least one nutritious meal per day – often the only meal they will have. The ministry also addresses the physical needs of the children, offering medical care, therapy, and even home repairs for the families they serve.
