Upper Loft Meditation – John 12
Then Jesus cried out, … I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. - John 12:44,46
I am not very good at walking in the dark. I have a magnetic quality that causes me to be drawn to tables, chairs, and walls. Impact is inevitable. Stumbling is probable. My face on the floor is a certainty! I get into the biggest trouble when I think I can see in the darkness. This is the old way. It is the “I can do it myself. I know the way!” attitude.
There is a difference between using Jesus as a guidebook, and having “Christ in you” who lights up the way. With our strong independent nature, many choose the guidebook approach. You have the options before you. You select whichever one you like or you can set the guidebook aside. You choose.
But, I believe in the indwelling Christ. There is no good reason why I should walk in the darkness or loiter in the shadows. The presence of Jesus in my life enables me to see and walk out of the darkness. He leads me wherever I am to go.
The presence of Jesus in my life reveals the darkness for what it is. “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed” John 3:20 The Bible provides guidance for coping with the ever presence of darkness in this world.
The presence of Jesus in my life is a light to the world. “You are the light of the world. …let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14,16).
The purpose of our walk through life is to bring praise, honor, and glory to our heavenly Father. Do you see the light?
